Melanie V. Miguel-Courtad graduated from John Carroll University in 1991 with a Bachelors and Arts Degree and went on to attend the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. She obtained her Juris Doctorate Degree in 1994 and was admitted to practice Law in the State of Ohio in May 1995. In 1998, she was admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. She is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Ohio Employment Lawyers Association, National Employment Lawyers Association, Cleveland Employment Lawyers Association, The Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers and the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys. In 2004 she was named an Ohio Super Lawyers Rising Star and became a member of the William K. Thomas Inn of Court, an Inn designed to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility and legal skill.

In 2001, she left a firm that she had been with since becoming licensed as an attorney in the State of Ohio to start her own law practice. Melanie V. Miguel-Courtad takes pride in providing quick and prompt responses to her clients.  She has handled hundreds if not thousands of hearings before the Industrial Commission of Ohio.  She has practiced in a variety of courts in the State of Ohio including Municipal Court, Common Pleas Court, the Court of Appeals, the Ohio Court of Claims and the Ohio Supreme Court.  She has had several trials at the County level.  Further, she practices in the United States Federal Court, Northern District of Ohio.  Recently, she completed a seven day jury trial involving an individual who alleged he was wrongfully terminated from his employment due to a serious disability.  In 2007 she successfully argued on behalf of an injured worker in the Rosado Case to the Eighth District Court of Appeals. That case had been dismissed by the Judge at the trial level.  The Court of Appeals reversed the opinion of the Trial Court and remanded the case back to the court for further proceedings. 

Melanie was a candidate for the Portage County Municipal Court Judge in 2004.  She currently is on the Portage County Democratic Central Committee and Aurora Landmark Commission.
